Dwayne DeMarais, 61

Pelican Rapids - Dwayne A. DeMarais, 61, formerly of Red Lake Falls, died on Friday, December 13, 2002 in Denison, Texas.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 21 at Johnson Funeral Home in Red Lake Falls with Rev. Tim Bushy officiating. Interment will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Red Lake Falls. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to services at the church.

Dwayne Arthur DeMarais was born on February 13, 1941, the son of Leonard A. "Nig" and Dora M. (Bratton) DeMarais in Mentor. He was baptized at St. Andrews Catholic Church in Mentor and confirmed in Red Lake Falls. He attended Lafayette High School in Red Lake Falls.

On March 22, 1958, Dwayne entered the United States Marine Corps. He served as a military police officer, mainly at Camp Lejeune, N.C. and in Korea and was honorably discharged on March 21, 1962.

In August of 1968, he married Linda Roggie in Red Lake Falls. Following military service, he went to work with Gerald N. Evenson Trucking, based in Pelican Rapids, as an over-the-road driver. He drove for Gerald Evenson until 1980, when he bought his own truck and continued with International Transport out of Rochester. Later, Dwayne leased with Evenson Brothers, Inc. in Pelican Rapids.

He enjoyed shopping and watching movies, but was happiest driving his Peterbilt Truck and visiting with family and friends.

Survivors include two sons, Daniel of Apple Valley and Mitchell (Lisa) of Albertville; two grandchildren; four brothers, Ben Camp of Tucson, Ariz., Russell (Sue) DeMarais of Twin Valley; Tony (Karen) DeMarais of Fargo, N.D. and Terry DeMarais of Brooks; three sisters, Carole (Barry) Baertlein of Canby, Ore., Mary (Terry) Lundon of Crookston and Donna (Michael) Parenteau of Walla Walla, Wash.; and several nieces and nephews.

Dwayne was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Leonard. A00003B2002DC18
