Howard
DeBriyn, 76
Phillips,
Wisc. - Howard DeBriyn, 76, died Wednesday,
August 1, 2001 at St. Joseph's Hospital in
Marshfield, Wisc.
Memorial
services were held Saturday, August 4, at Out Lady
of the North Catholic Church with Father Gerald
Hagen officiating. Military honors were conducted
by Frank and Michael Baran VFW Post 5778. Interment
was in St. Patrick's Cemetery.
Howard
Francis DeBriyn was born on August 9, 1924 in
Ashland, Wisc., the son of Albert and Marie
DeBriyn. He graduated from Ashland High School in
1943. From 1943 to 1946, Howard served with the
U.S. Army with the 302 Port Co. 519 Port BN in the
Normandy, Northern France and Rhineland theaters of
action during World War II. He received numerous
citations and medals, including three Bronze
Stars.
On
November 5, 1946, Howard married Eleanore Rabideaux
in Red Cliff, Wisc. He served as a conservation
officer for the state of Wisconsin from 1949 to
1980, serving in the Phillips area the entire 32
years. In 1978, he was presented with the Haskell
Noyes Award recognizing him as the most outstanding
warden in the state of Wisconsin. Following his
retirement, Howard worked as a carpenter for many
years.
He
was a member of Our Lady of the North Catholic
Church and was a past member of the VFW and Knights
of Columbus.
He
enjoyed RV travel, hunting, fishing and gardening
in his greenhouse.
Howard
is survived by his wife, Eleanore; a daughter,
Donna (Randy) Hendrickson of Eau Claire, Wisc.; a
son, Robert (Cheryl) Phillips; a granddaughter; two
brothers, Ray (Mary) of San Antonio, Texas and
Lester (Gladys) of Thief River Falls; and two
sisters, Isabel Hunter of Duluth and Eleanor
Williams of Ashland, Wisc.
He
was preceded in death by his parents and a brother,
