Orlan Dahl, 69

Gatzke &endash; Orlan C. Dahl, 69, died Wednesday, July 3, at the CNC Unit of Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

Services were held on Saturday, Dahl, Orlan July 6, 2002, at United Lutheran Church in Gatzke, with Pastor Paul Knutson and Intern Shirley Teske, officiating. Interment was at Moose River Cemetery, Gatzke.

Orlan Dahl was born on November 7, 1932, in Rollis Township of Marshall County near Gatzke. He grew to manhood there, and was baptized and confirmed at the United Lutheran Church in Gatzke, where he was a life-long member. He graduated from Middle River High School in 1950. Orlan served with the U.S. Army from 1956 until 1958, and was stationed in Germany and Lebanon. He lived and farmed his entire life in Rollis Township with his brother Arvin.

Dahl married Eleanor Olson on June 22, 1974, at Middle River. He worked at the Minot Missile Site in the early 1960s, and spent winter months doing mechanic work in his shop in Gatzke. He retired from farming in 1997 following a stroke. Orlan was a member of the Middle River American Legion Post, the Gatzke Sportsmen's Club, and served as a director on the Midland Co-op Oil Association Board for many years. He served on the Gatzke School Board, the Rollis Creamery Board, and was the first president of the Marshall County N.F.O. Since December of 2001, he has resided at the CNC Unit of Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls where he passed away.

He is survived by one daughter: Hope Dahl of Minneapolis; four step children: Nadine Duffy of Grand Forks, N.D.; Verlyn (Tracey) Olson, Warroad; Harlan (Shannon) Olson, Strathcona; and Joan, Mrs. Darwin Klamar of Middle River; 11 grandchildren; three brothers: Elmer of Argyle; Arvin (Marvel), and Larry (Erma), both of Middle River; three sisters: Anna, Mrs. Evert Westberg, Thief River Falls; Mavis, Mrs. Norman Roppe, Strathcona; and Janet, Mrs. Duane Lian of Grygla; in addition to many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Orlan was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters: Esther and Cora.
