River Falls - Woodrow "Woody" Craik, 88, died
on Sunday, March 14, 2004.
A
private family service was
held
in Mandeville, La. Services in Thief River Falls
will be held at the United Methodist Church on
Saturday, June 26 at 11 a.m. Military rites will be
provided by the Thief River Falls VFW and American
Legion. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery in
Thief River Falls, next to his wife
Martha.
Woody
Craik was born on October 11, 1915 in Thief River
Falls to Andrew and Anna (Gravlie) Craik. A life
long resident of Thief River Falls, he attended
school and graduated from Lincoln High School in
1933.
Woody
worked for Hartz Foods for a short time following
high school and then moved to Chicago, Ill., where
he worked as a baker for two years. He then
enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on March
3, 1942. He served in the Asiatic Pacific area from
August 14, 1942 until January 11, 1944 and was
honorably discharged on November 7, 1945.
On
October 8, 1948 he was united in marriage to Martha
Hammer in Thief River Falls. The couple continued
to reside in Thief River Falls where Woody worked
for the U.S. Postal Service as a rural mail
carrier. He retired after 35 years of dedicated
service.
Woody
was a member of the United Methodist Church,
Masonic Lodge, American Legion and the VFW all in
Thief River Falls. He found great enjoyment in
being outdoors, hunting, fishing and bird feeding.
Survivors
include three children, Keith (Diane) of New
Orleans, La., Robert (Suzanne) of Novi, Mich., and
Laurie Ann (Mark) Nelson of CoCo Beach, Fla.; five
grandchildren; and many friends.
He
was preceded in death by his parents; his wife,
Martha; brothers, Keith and Kenneth; and sister
