Cork, Marion folderThief River Falls - Marion Cork, 70, died on Friday, March 26, 2004 at Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 2, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, with Rev. Mark Helgeland officiating. Casket bearers include John Kopari, John Schmitz, Jeff Mumm, Frank Hamerlinck, Tom Hunt, Charlie Cornell and Lynn Dyer. Interment will be held at Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls.

Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 1, at Johnson-Green Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, with a 7 p.m. prayer service and for one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.

Marion Rita Meitzel was born May 22, 1933 in Fond Du Lac, Wis., the daughter of Adolph and Elise (LaCoursiere) Meitzel. She moved with her family to the Thief River Falls area as a small child. Her mother passed away in 1938. Her father remarried in 1939 to Mary Gaven and they were family again. Mary passed away in 1945 leaving Marion to take over as mother and homemaker for the family.

Marion went to school in Shevlin, Germantown and Thief River Falls, graduating from Lincoln High School in 1951.

On June 25, 1955, Marion was united in marriage to Albert "Sam" Cork at St. Bernard's Catholic Church with Father Keaugh Patnode officiating. They made their home in Thief River Falls.

Marion worked at the Nu-Way Sandwich Shop, Falls Theatre, Ihle and Son Insurance Agency and School District 564, retiring in 1992 with 26 years as a secretary and cashier.

She was an Auxiliary member of the (UTU) Ladies Trainman, Eagles and Legion. She enjoyed baking, cooking and reading to all of her grandchildren. Most of all, after retirement, she enjoyed being a snowbird in Las Vegas, Nev. for many years.

Survivors include her husband, Sam of Thief River Falls; daughters, Donna (David) Vigness of LaCrosse, Wis. and Diane (David) Zitnak of Maple Grove; sons, David of Thief River Falls and Daniel (Mary Jo) of Eagan; four granddaughters; one grandson; two nephews; and sister-in-law, Lillian Meitzel of Virginia.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Lawrence; step-mother, Mary and half-sister, Rita. A00003B2004MR31
