- Fern Cook, 85, died on Thursday, May 6, 2004
at the Good Samaritan Center in Warren.
Funeral
services were held on Monday, May 10 at the First
Lutheran Church in Stephen. Interment was held at
Viking Cemetery in Viking.
Mona
Mabell was born on February 15, 1919 to Erma and
John McInnes in Illinois. She was adopted by Harry
and Katherine (Gehrig) Jeffries when she was five
years old in Flint, Mich. She was renamed Fern
Harriet. She was baptized and confirmed in the
Catholic faith. Her first job was waitressing at a
diner in Flint owned by Kenneth Cook.
On
December 3, 1939, she was united in marriage to
Kenneth B. Cook in Lansing, Mich. In 1943, they
moved to rural Viking, in Marshall County. To this
union six children were born. Fern worked various
jobs including rural school bus driver, Miller Oil
Burner, Warren Hospital and at the Arctic Cat
sewing factories. Kenneth died on April 14, 1984.
Fern moved to Stephen in 2001.
She
will be remembered for her sewing and crocheting
abilities.
Survivors
include her children, Gale (Mary Lou) Cook of
Viking, Rona` (L.J.) Anderson of Baudette, Patsy
(Kenneth) Heggen of Stephen, Bradley (Elsa) Cook of
Stephen, and Michael (Joann) Cook of Hawley; 16
grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a
half-sister, Delores DeMarco of Michigan; one
half-brother Robert Rhyne of Michigan; one
brother-in-law, John E. (Annabelle) Cook of
Greeley, Colo. and several nieces, nephews and
friends.
She
was preceded in death by her parents; her husband;
her son, Alan Bruce Cook; and several brothers and
sisters.
