Kathleen Clark, 78

Karlstad - Kathleen Clark, 78, died Tuesday, April 30, 2002 at Immanuel St. Joseph's Hospital in Mankato.

Funeral services were held at 10 Clark obit a.m. on Friday, May 3, at First Lutheran Church in Karlstad with Rev. Gary Halverson officiating. Kirstin Olson was the organist, and Josh Roots presented a piano prelude. Casketbearers were Ken Loveness, Jim Wollin, Floyd Kuznia, Loren Germundson, Wayne Ruud, and Robin Swanson. Interment took place on Sunday, May 5, at 3 p.m. in Dundee Lutheran Cemetery in Dundee, Minn. Collins Funeral Home of Karlstad was in charge of the arrangements.

Kathleen Jane Nelson was born on August 23, 1923 in Huron, S.D., the daughter of Pearly and Fern (Schmidt) Nelson. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Dundee and graduated from Tracy High School in 1941. She attended Tracy Junior College in 1942 and Augustana College in Sioux Falls, S.D. in 1943. While attending college, she joined the Cadet Nurses Corps. In 1945, Kathleen graduated from Sioux Falls Valley Hospital with a registered nursing degree.

On March 3, 1947, she was united in marriage to Stan Clark at the Little Brown Church in the Valley in Iowa. The couple lived and farmed at rural Fulda until 1971 when they moved to Karlstad. Kathleen taught the voca-tional/occupational health class at Karlstad High School for 10 years. She was also employed as a nurse at the Karlstad Nursing Home until her retirement. After Stan's death on November 5, 1991, Kathleen continued to make her home in Karlstad.

She was very involved in the community as a volunteer and was an active member of Moose Country Garden Club. She was also a member of First Lutheran Church, serving on the church council and as a member of the women's group.

Kathleen is survived by three sons, James (Bev) of Mankato, Bruce (Karen) of Watertown, S.D., and Dan (Michele) of Reno, Nev.; a daughter, Jane (Russ) Roots of Tracy; two sisters, Bev Holland of Garvin and Carmen Murphy of Bozeman, Mont.; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents. A00003B2002MY08
