Bernice Christensen, 84

Kenmare, N.D. - Bernice Christensen, 84, formerly of Thief River Falls, died Monday September 10, 2001 at Hillsboro Medical Center in Hillsboro, N.D.

Christensen obit Memorial services will be held on Saturday, September 22, at 1:30 p.m. at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Kenmare, N.D. with Rev. Dick Owens officiating.

Burial was held on Thursday, September 13, at Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls.

Green Funeral Home of Thief River Falls is in charge of arrangements.

Bernice Knutson was born on April 30, 1917 in Norma, N.D., the daughter of Knut and Torbjor (Johansdatter) Knutson. She graduated from Kenmare (N.D.) High School in 1936.

On November 5, 1938, Bernice was united in marriage to Leverne "Christy" Christensen in Kenmare. The couple lived in Kenmare until 1958 when they moved to Thief River Falls where they resided until 1975. Bernice lived briefly in Oklahoma, South Dakota and Pennsylvania before returning to Kenmare in 1983.

From the mid-1960s through the mid-1970s, she worked as a nurse's aide and ward secretary at Northwestern Hospital in Thief River Falls.

Bernice was a former member of Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls and was currently a member of Nazareth Lutheran Church in Kenmare.

She enjoyed needlework, reading and especially spending time with her family.

Bernice is survived by a son, Allen Christensen of Stroudsburg, Penn.; two daughters, Juliet Steenson of Eau Claire, Wisc. and Nancy (Buzz) Olson of East Grand Forks; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Larry; a son-in-law, David Steenson; her parents; six brothers, Carl, Theodore, Engvald, Hjalmer, George and Kermit; and four sisters, Clara, Alice, Thelma and Eleanor. A00003B2001SP19
