Thief River Falls - Richard Champagne, 51, died Sunday, January 25, 2004 at Northwest Medical Center, Thief River Falls.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 2 p.m., on Thursday, Jan. 29, at St. Joseph's Church in Brooks, with Father Tim Bushy officiating. Casket bearers include Mike Halsa, Shane Champagne, Jason Snyder, Mark Hetler, Greg Bruley, Arnie Paradis and Walt Novak. Interment will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Brooks.

Visitation will be 5 &endash; 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 28 at St. Joseph's Church in Brooks, with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service and for one hour prior to services on Thursday.

Richard Champagne was born December 9, 1952 in Red Lake Falls, the son of Elmer and Theresa (Lessard) Champagne. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph's in Brooks. He attended elementary school in Brooks and attended high school in Red Lake Falls.

In 1975, Richard was united in marriage to Judy Burthwick in Brooks. He worked at Arctic Cat in Thief River Falls until 1979 and then from 1979 &endash; 1995 he drove mail truck for Paradis, Inc, until his health forced him to retire.

Richard enjoyed watching sports and yard work. Most of all he loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his fiancé, Kim Bruley of Thief River Falls; children, Bryan (Patty) Champagne of Thief River Falls, Patti (Kent) Bergerson and Denise Gunderson of Oklee; five grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; his mother Theresa Champagne brothers and sisters, Kathleen Halsa of Thief River Falls, Ronald (Marlene Hince) Champagne of Thermopolis, Wyo., Jeff (Deb) Champagne of Brooks, Kevin Champagne of Oregon, Janel (Greg Lord) Champagne of Brooks and Scott Champagne of Brooks; sister-in-law, Mary Champagne of Lakeville and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Elmer; one brother, Kenny; grandparents, Charles and Rose Lessard and Amedie and Delima Champagne. A00003B2004JA28
