Goldie Champagne, 94

New Brighton - Goldie Boucher Champagne, 94, died Thursday, May 30, 2002 at New Brighton Care Center in New Brighton.

Mass of Christian burial was held Champagne obit at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 3, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Oklee with Father John Kleinwachter officiating. Barb Melby was the organist, and special music was provided by Al and Eddie Walseth. Casketbearers were grandsons Keith Delage, Bryan Delage, Brock Walseth, Joshua Martini, Mike Medrow, and John Medrow. Honorary casketbearers included all of Goldie's grandchildren. Interment was in St. Francis Catholic Cemetery in Oklee. Johnson Funeral Service of Red Lake Falls was in charge of the arrangements.

Goldie Perreault was born on April 30, 1908 in Cass Lake, the daughter of Louis and Edith (Gaudette) Perreault. When she was three years old, she moved with her family to Brooks. Goldie was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith and attended school in Brooks and for one year in Red Lake Falls.

On November 16, 1925, she was united in marriage to Albert O. Boucher in Brooks. Goldie and Albert moved to Cudahy, Wisc. and resided there for three years before returning to the area to live on his parents' farm in Lambert Township near Oklee. Albert died in 1984.

In 1987, Goldie married Amedie Champagne at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Oklee. Amedie died in 1994. In May of 1994, Goldie moved to Valley Home in Thief River Falls, and in November of 1994, she moved to the Minneapolis area.

Goldie worked at various area cafes as well as the bowling alley and dry cleaners in Oklee. Many knew her as a seamstress.

She was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church in Oklee and St. Ann's Altar Society. Goldie taught Catechism and was very active in the church.

She enjoyed quilting, sewing, baking, gardening, playing cards, and especially, spending time with her family and friends.

Goldie is survived by five daughters, Leila (Lee) Medrow of Oak Creek, Wisc., Elaine (Mike) Brown of Missoula, Mont., Joanne (Francis) Bradley of Brooks, Marlene Martini (special friend Bryan Buck) of Coon Rapids, and Mary (Eddie) Walseth of Thief River Falls; 18 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Viola Mostad of Grand Forks, N.D. and Mae Champagne of North Caroline; and many other relatives.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husbands; a son-in-law, Robert Delage; a granddaughter, Rhonda Delage; a great-grandson, Joshua Krebs; a brother, Joe Perreault; and two sisters, Anna Lambert and Lilly Richard. A00003B2002JU05
