Petra Chalmers, 94

Thief River Falls - Petra "Pete" Chalmers, 94, died Monday, July 16, 2001 at the CN & C Unit at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Friday, July 20, at Lakota Lutheran Church in Lakota, N.D. with Rev. Roger Johnson officiating. Karen Fowler was the organist, and special music was provided by the Lakota Church Choir. Casketbearers were Bill Monson, Bob Leach, Rick Hill, Milton Wagness, Gary McLean and Roger Chalmers. Interment was in Lakota Cemetery with Aaker Funeral Home of Lakota in charge of the arrangements.

Petra Holt was born on September 30, 1906 in Tofte township of Pierce county near Rugby, N.D. She was raised and educated in York, N.D., graduating from York High School in 1924. Following graduation, Pete worked in cook cars, a restaurant and Rugby Hospital.

On October 6, 1929, she married Howard B. Chalmers at Leeds, N.D. The couple lived in various communities before settling in Lakota where they lived for many years. After Howard's death on September 22, 1984, Petra continued to reside in Lakota. In 1997, she moved to Thief River Falls to be near her family.

She was active at Lakota Lutheran Church, teaching Sunday school, participating in Ladies Aid and singing in the choir for many years.

Pete is survived by a son, Ronald (Katherine) Chalmers of Thief River Falls, and two sisters, Ingrid Timboe of San Diego, Calif. and Julie "Babe" Johnson of Seattle, Wash.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; an infant son; three sisters, Christine Gulbranson, Ellen Blessum and Ann Hill; and a brother, Einar Holt. A00003B2001JL25
