Eleanor Casavan, 76

Red Lake Falls - Eleanor Casavan, 76, died Monday, June 3, 2002 at Hillcrest Nursing Home in Red Lake Falls.

Funeral services will be held at Casavan Obit 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 7, at St. John Lutheran Church in Red Lake Falls with Rev. Jeffrey S. Lytle officiating. Lana Violette will be the organist, and the soloist will be Jennifer Wieland. Casketbearers will include Craig Ulrich, Steven Ulrich, Brian Remick, Bradley Kees, Jeffrey Kees, Jason Knott, Brenden Casavan, Wyatt Casavan, Joshua Casavan, Todd Wieland, Jack Sullivan, Ben Langton, and Kurt Rhyner. Burial will be in Immanuel Cemetery in Wylie.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 6, from 5 to 8 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service at St. John Lutheran Church and for one hour prior to services Friday. Johnson Funeral Service of Red Lake Falls is in charge of the arrangements.

Eleanor Ruth Wieland was born on June 30, 1925 at Fisher, the daughter of Walter and Edna (Wagner) Wieland. She was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fisher and confirmed on June 25, 1939 at Immanuel Lutheran Church at Wylie. She moved to Red Lake Falls with her family in 1938 and graduated from Lafayette High School in 1946.

On September 18, 1946, Eleanor was united in marriage to Lawrence "Blackie" Casavan at Dorothy. The couple lived near Red Lake Falls, and Eleanor worked at Farmers Union, Bjerke Hardware, Thompson Hardware, and for 18 years at Hillcrest Nursing Home. Blackie died on April 8, 1995.

Eleanor was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church and its Ladies Aid. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and a life member of the VFW Auxiliary in Crookston.

She enjoyed fishing, attending her grandchildren's sporting events, word search games, cards, embroidery, and spoiling her sons-in-law.

Eleanor is survived by a son, Gary (Paulette) Casavan of Red Lake Falls; three daughters, Lois (Allen) Remick and Linda (Kenneth) Ulrich, both of Red Lake Falls, and Carol (Douglas) Kees of Juda, Wisc.; her mother, Edna Wieland of Red Lake Falls; 14 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; five brothers, Kenneth Wieland, Alvis Wieland, and Henry (Marilyn) Wieland, all of Red Lake Falls, Donald (Audrey) Wieland of Crookston, and Dean (Mae) Wieland of Grand Forks, N.D.; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her husband and father.
