Joan Carter, 68

Bemidji - Joan P. Carter, 68, died Saturday, April 14, 2001 in Peoria, Ariz. where she was a winter resident.

A memorial service will be hosted by her family on Friday, May 11, 2001 at 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls. Interment of ashes will be in Calvary Cemetery in Bemidji.

Joan Goley Portman was born on April 3, 1933 in Beaver Falls, Penn., the daughter of Maxwell and Isabell Portman. She graduated from high school in Beaver Falls and attended Mt. Union College.

On February 3, 1952, she married Robert G. Carter in Alliance, Ohio. From 1970 until 1993, the couple lived in Thief River Falls where Joan worked as a volunteer secretary at the Occupational Development Center. They resided in LaPorte from 1993 until 1998 when they moved to Bemidji.

Joan is survived by her husband, Robert Carter; four sons, Robert (Tina), Gregory (JB), Jeffrey (Glenny) and Brett (Jodi); five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Maxine (John) Griffeth. A00003B2000MY02
