Hayward,
Wis. - Wayne "Kit" Carson, 84, of Hayward, Wis.
died Saturday, May 22, 2004 at Sacred Heart
Hospital in Eau Claire, Wis.
A
mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. on
Wednesday, May 26, at the St. Joseph Catholic
Church in Hayward, Wis. with Father Bill Green
officiating. A time of gathering of family and
friends will be held from 9:30 a.m. to the time of
services Wednesday at the church. Military rites
will be accorded by the Hayward Veterans Council.
Interment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in
Hayward.
Wayne
Delaney Carson was born on October 26, 1919 in
Parsons, Kan., the son of Chester and Ethel
(Delaney) Carson.
Kit
was united in marriage to Darlyne "Dar" Carson on
May 6, 1963 in Carson City, Nev.
Kit
had a very distinguished military career in the
United States Air Force. He was a B-17 pilot during
World War II, flying over 21 missions.
He
and his crew were shot down behind enemy lines n
Belgium and were rescued by the French resistance
and flown back to England several days later.
After
the liberation of WWII, Kit was involved with
transporting concentration camp survivors to their
home countries. During the Korean conflict, Kit
flew missions to drop night agents into North
Korea. He also flew air medical evacuations for
three years from 1951-53.
After
flying 12 different airplanes and logging over
8,000 hours of flying time, Kit retired from the
military on June 30, 1964. Kit and Dar then moved
to Hayward, Wis. Kit saw a need for an Insurance
office in Hayward and started the State Farm
Insurance Agency which he ran successfully for 24
years and retired for a second time in 1988.
He
loved fishing, especially fly fishing and
gardening, his sense of humor and how he loved to
tease people. He was a loving husband, dad and
grandfather.
Survivors
include his wife; two sons, Mark (Colleen) Daniels
of Pine City and Michael (Cheryl) Daniels of
Hudson, Wis.; six daughters, Collene (Pat) Mahon of
Las Vegas, Nev. ; Cindy (Kenny Saccomano) Carson of
Las Vegas, Nev., Michelle (Kevin) Duffy of Thief
River Falls, Mary (Steve) Thomas-Stoffel of Eden
Prairie, Danielle (Shawn) Olson of New Brighton,
and Elizabeth (Don) Knop of Oxford, Mich.; 27
grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one sister,
Louise Sora of Anaheim, Calif. and many nieces and
nephews.
He
was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers
