- Joyce Carlson, 78, died on Friday, July 16,
2004 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River
Falls.
Funeral
services were held on
Tuesday,
July 20 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Plummer,
with Rev. Arthur Ohlwine officiating. Casket
bearers included Byron Rosten, Steve Rosten, Dale
Carlson, John Rosten, Gerald Rodenbo and Jim Hagge.
Interment was held at the Emardville Cemetery in
rural Plummer.
Joyce
Mabel Rosten was born on July 7, 1926 near
Woodside, in Godfrey Township in Polk County, to
John and Mabel (Bergum) Rosten. She was baptized on
July 28, 1926 at the Maple Lake Lutheran Church in
Fertile. She was confirmed on October 6, 1940 at
the Salem Lutheran Church in Oklee. Joyce attended
school in Plummer graduating from Pershing High
School in Plummer on June 2, 1944. She worked at
various jobs in Minneapolis, and Kalamazoo, Mich.,
and at the Excello Airplane parts factory in
Detroit, Mich. until she was married.
Joyce
was united in marriage to Burton Raymond Carlson on
April 17, 1946 in Oklee. After her children had
left home, Joyce worked at the Hillcrest Nursing
Home in Red Lake Falls, and at the Red Lake Falls
Vet Clinic.
Joyce
was known for her hospitality. Her hobbies included
gardening, quilting, crocheting, cooking, reading,
and making lefse. Her greatest joy came from
spending time with her family.
Joyce
was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church in
Plummer, serving for 20 years as secretary of the
Lutheran Women's Missionary League. She served on
the NW Area Agency on Aging Board, and was a breast
cancer survivor. Their farm was a 1994 Century Farm
and Joyce and Burton also received the 2000 Valley
Farmer and Homemaker Award.
Survivors
include three children, Scharlene (Don) Fox of
Plummer, Robert (JoEllen) Carlson of Moorhead and
Paula (Jason) Cater of Plummer; six grandchildren;
one great grandson; one sister, Delores (Jerry)
Rodenbo of Duluth; one brother, Ray (Irene) Rosten
of Plummer; two sisters-in-law Violet (Warren)
Willenburg of Lewisville, Texas and Jane (Gerry)
Robbins of Pine City; one brother-in-law, Merlin
(Judy) Carlson of Plummer; and several nieces and
nephews.
She
was preceded in death by her parents; her husband
Burton on October 13, 2003; three brothers; an
infant Oris Donald Rosten; Paul Iver Rosten, and
