Ella Carlson, 89

Badger - Ella F. Carlson, 89, died Thursday, August 23, 2001 at Greenbush Nursing Home in Greenbush.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 28, at 2 p.m. at Gieseke Funeral Chapel in Greenbush with Rev. Alvin Sather officiating. Special music was provided by Rev. Sather. Honorary casketbearers were Brian and Wayne Trangsrud, Mike Carlson, Randy Erickson, Rudy Heddan and Darwin Sanden. Interment was in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Duxby.

Ella F. Helgeson was born on July 24, 1912 in Duxby, the daughter of Henry and Clara (Anderson) Helgeson. When she was young, Ella worked on area farms and drove a local school bus. She also worked as a housekeeper in Roseau.

On May 4, 1934, she married John R. Carlson at Grafton, N.D. The couple farmed north of Duxby for many years. For several years, Ella cooked for area threshing crews during the summer months. During the winter months, she made quilts. Following John's death on August 25, 1983, Ella continued to make her home on the farm until moving to the Greenbush Nursing Home two and one-half years ago.

Survivors include a son, Quintin Carlson of Badger; three daughters, Lois Carlson of Badger, Darlene (Larry) Rosenthal of Tempe, Ariz. and Christine (Dennis) Timm of Minneapolis; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; five sisters, Lyda Erickson and Agnes Durgin, both of Badger, Nellie Erickson of Greenbush, Lillian Johnson of Grand Rapids and Vernie Tinny of Tacoma, Wash.; and many nieces and nephews.

Ella was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three sisters, Mabel Skoglund, Anne Lundgren and Alice Daley; and two brothers, Clarence Helgeson and Lloyd Helgeson. A00003B2001AG29
