Romal Burtness, 76

Thief River Falls - Romal Burtness, 76, died Wednesday, April 25, 2001 while traveling in Phoenix, Ariz.

Funeral services were held at 2 Burtness obit p.m. on Tuesday, May 1, at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Holt with Rev. Jay Borchert officiating. Yvonne Larson was the organist. Casketbearers were Dr. Orley Gunderson, Leroy Jenson, Denny Wendtland, Hal Harbott, Griffin Newland and Rocky Jesperson. Honorary casketbearers were Romal's co-workers from Northwest Beverage. Interment was in the Holt Cemetery in Holt.

Romal Burtness was born on October 18, 1924, the son of Adolph and Stella (Mickelson) Burtness. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in Holt. He graduated from Newfolden High School and went on to attend a business college in Fargo, N.D. for two years. In 1944, Romal moved with his parents to Portland, Ore. where he worked as an accountant at Kaiser Ship Building Company during the war. He returned to Minnesota a couple of years after the war and made his home in Thief River Falls. For many years he worked as an office manager for Weiner Motors and then Falls Concrete. He also worked for Midland Coop in Thief River Falls prior to going to work at Northwest Beverage where he was employed at the time of his death.

Romal was a member of Nazareth Lutheran Church of Holt and served on the Foundation board of Northland Community and Technical College.

He enjoyed hunting in his younger days. He also enjoyed traveling and had traveled to Europe and extensively throughout the United States. Dining out and eating good food were also among the things he enjoyed.

Romal is survived by several cousins.
