Thief
River Falls - Carl Burrell, 91, died on
Saturday, March 15, 2003 at Northwest Medical
Center in Thief River Falls.
Funeral
services were held on Tuesday, March 18 at the
Johnson-Green Funeral Home in Thief River Falls
with the Rev. George Davis officiating. Special
music was provided by the Trochman Family.
Casketbearers were Randy Burrell, Jim Ellis, Ray
Wagner, Dennis McCullough, Scott Brandon and Merton
Hutchinson. Interment was in the German Evangelical
Cemetery in rural Middle River.
Carl
Allen Burrell was born on May 30, 1911, the son of
William Burrell and Nancy Neely McCullough in Thief
River Falls. He grew up near Middle River and
attended schools through the eighth grade there. He
worked on farms in the area.
On May
31, 1933, he married Adeline Helen Wagner in the
Methodist Parsonage in Thief River Falls. Carl was
baptized on the same day he was married. The couple
were married for 68 years before Adeline's death in
2002. They farmed in Cedar Township and, later,
moved to the Ringbo area for 10 years. In 1974,
they moved to Thief River Falls. Carl worked at
Agassiz Refuge for many years and the Thief Lake
refuge and trapped for the State of Minnesota. Carl
enjoyed fishing, trapping and was an avid hunter.
Survivors
include two sons, Conrad (Jean) of Middle River and
Ronald (Beverly) of Salem, Ore.; 10 grandchildren;
many great-grandchildren; and a son-in-law, Merton
Hutchinson of Thief River Falls.
Carl was
preceded in death by his wife, Adeline; daughters,
Joan Burrell and Juanita Hutchinson; half-brothers,
Albert McCullough, Patrick McCullough, Jim
McCullough and Willie McCullough; and sister, Hazel
