Erskine - Generva Brovold, 84, died on Sunday, August 10, 2003 at the Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine.
Funeral services
will be held at
11 a.m. on Thursday,
August 14 at Grace Lutheran Church in Erskine with the Rev. Peter
Satren officiating. Casketbearers will be Leon Trandem, Mark
Bjerknes, Randy Kowacki, Joe Sandberg, Stanley Strand, Keith
Gunderson, Chester Benson and Dennis Berger. Honorary casketbearers
will be the staff of Pioneer Memorial Care Center. Interment will be
in Fairview Cemetery in rural Erskine. Visitation will be held from 5
to 7 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service on Wednesday, August 13 at the
Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home in Erskine. Visitation will also be held
for one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.
Generva Idella Nyland was born on November 10, 1918 in Gully, the daughter of Lars and Alma (Iverson) Nyland. She grew up and attended school in Gully.
On October 14, 1940, she was united in marriage to Alvin Brovold of McIntosh. The couple owned and operated Hartz grocery stores in Halstad, Kennedy and Hallock. They moved to Erskine in 1950 and owned Hartz stores in Erskine and McIntosh until their retirement. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church of Erskine, where she was active in Ladies' Aid and Circle. She also belonged to the Erskine Senior Citizen's Club and was a volunteer at the Pioneer Memorial Care Center for many years. Generva's hobby was her garden. She also enjoyed doing handiwork and needlework in her spare time.
Survivors include her husband, Alvin of Erskine; one daughter, Dianne (Stanley) Severson of Afton; one son, Gary (Julie) Brovold of Detroit Lakes; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Generva was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Harlow Nyland; and one sister, Alice Breivold. A00003B2003AG13
