Lake Falls - David Brockopp, 69, died on
Wednesday, July 30, 2003 at the Health Science
Center in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Funeral
services were held on
Monday,
August 4 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Plummer
with the Rev. Bernhard Lutz officiating.
Casketbearers were Jason Cater, Jason Engen, Dean
Hesse, Dan Hesse, Kevin Malwitz, Neil Mattison and
Wayne Guillmette. Interment was in St. Paul's
Lutheran Cemetery in Henning.
David
Walter Brockopp was born in Grenfell, Saskatchewan,
on April 6, 1934, the son of the Rev. Walter and
Margaret (Werth) Brockopp. He lived in Oakshella
and Hatton, Saskatchewan. In 1947, he moved with
his parents to Sykeston, N.D. He attended Concordia
Academy and Concordia College in St. Paul. After
graduating, he taught school at St. Andrews
Lutheran School in Niagara, N.D., for one year. He
then entered Concordia Theological Seminary in
Springfield, Ill., vicaring in Aitkin, then
graduating in 1960.
David
served in his first parish in Land O' Lakes and
Boulder Junction, Wisc., and Beachwood, Mich. He
moved to Ladysmith, Wisc., in 1966 to serve a
church there and in Bruce, Wisc. In 1968, he moved
to Dryden, Ontario, to serve a three-church parish.
In 1973, he started a church in Sioux Lookout,
Ontario, and in 1977, started another church in
Ignace, Ontario. He also served as vacancy pastor
in Red Lake, Ontario. There were times when he
served all six churches at once. He served in Twin
Valley from 1989 until 1993. Semi-retirement took
him to Redeemer in Plummer.
David
loved the outdoors, spending time with his family
at the cabin and splitting wood, gardening, hunting
and fishing. He married Joanne Lueders in Henning
on August 24, 1956.
Survivors
include his wife, Joanne; three sons, Steven of
Phoenix, Ariz., John (Janel) of Oakdale and Scott
(Nichole) of Valley City, N.D.; one daughter, Donna
(Michael) of Sydney, Australia; eight
grandchildren; brothers, Allen (Sue) and Paul
(Roxi) of Denver, Colo.; sisters, Judy (Gordon)
Eley of Denver, Colo., and Amanda of Grants, N.M.;
and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and
uncles.
David
was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents
