Karen Britten, 55

Karlstad - Karen Britten, 55, died Monday, February 25, 2002 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, N.D.

Memorial services were held Friday, March 1, at 10 a.m. at First Britten Obit Lutheran Church in Karlstad with Rev. Gary Halverson officiating. Jeff Britten presented the eulogy. Kirstin Olson was the organist, and Wendy Blazejewski was the soloist. Special music was also provided by First Lutheran Church Choir. Arrangements were with Collins Funeral Home of Karlstad.

Karen Ann Zimdars was born on July 7, 1946 at Bloomington, the daughter of Ed and Vera (Johnson) Zimdars. She grew up in Bloomington and graduated from Lincoln High School. Karen also attended Bethany College at Mankato for two years.

On July 15, 1972, she was united in marriage to James Britten at Bloomington. The couple had since resided at Karlstad where Karen had been employed at Karlstad Farmers Elevator for the past 20 years.

Karen was a member of First Lutheran Church where she enjoyed singing in the choir. She also enjoyed other community activities, including softball and later golf. She was a member of the Birthday Club and enjoyed spending time with her friends.

Survivors include her husband, Jim; two sons, Jeff (Becky) of Miltona and Marcus of Fargo, N.D.; three grandchildren; her father, Ed Zimdars of Solona Beach, Calif.; two sisters, Kristine (Jerry) Engholm of Bloomington and Nancy (Ken) Seidel of Oldsmar, Fla.; a brother, Mark (Terri) of Olivenhain, Calif.; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
