Gerald Brinkman, 77

Greenbush - Gerald Brinkman, 77, died Wednesday, April 18, 2001 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, N.D.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 23, at Oiland Lutheran Church at rural Greenbush with Rev. LeRoy Flickinger officiating. Donna Graff was the pianist. Casketbearers were Franklin and Allison Frislie, Mark and Clyde Stephens, James Bergsnev and Scott Fossell. Military honors were accorded by Moen-Zimek American Legion Post 88 of Greenbush. Interment was in Oiland Lutheran Cemetery with Gieseke Funeral Chapel in charge of the arrangements.

Gerald Dean Brinkman was born on October 6, 1923 at Yakima, Wash., the son of Peter and Frances (Stephens) Brinkman. He grew up and attended school in Sunnyside, Wash. From 1941 until 1947, he served in the U.S. Navy. After his discharge he worked in Washington before moving to Minnesota in the late 1940's.

On May 20, 1950, Gerald married Norma Weaver at Greenbush. The couple farmed in Soler township north of Greenbush. He worked at the Chevrolet garage in Greenbush and was also a veterinarian's assistant for Dr. Larson at Greenbush. Gerald spent over 20 years in law enforcement, first with the Greenbush City Police Department and then as a Roseau County sheriff's deputy before working part-time. He contined to farm, raising mixed grains and cattle. He was also the county fire warden for more than 30 years.

Gerald is survived by his wife, Norma; three daughters, Lucille (Jerome) Schuller of Winona, Jill (Michael) Gross of Greenbush and Judy (Gary) Bronson of Lake Bronson; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Albert (Gladys) of Port Angeles, Wash.; and two sisters, Lucille Howard of Seattle, Wash. and Doris (Robert) Rebail of Yakima, Wash.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; two brothers, Earl and Granville; a sister, Mary Ellen; and a grandson, Josh Gross in 1999. A00003B2000AP25
