Thomas Braaten, 60

Plummer - Thomas Braaten, 60, died Sunday, January 27, 2002 at his home in Plummer.

Funeral services will be held at Braaten Obit b/w 11 a.m. today (Wednesday, January 30) at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plummer with Rev. Frank Ehling officiating. Jake Jacobson will be the organist and soloist. Casketbearers will be Pony Toulouse, Rocky Jasperson, Brent Hemly, Butch Kruse, Duane Nelson and Ferdinand DeHate. Honorary casketbearers will be Donnie Brekke, Charles Fellman, Jim Kelly, Bobby Pahlen, Don Anda and Marv Wolf. Military honors will be accorded by the Plummer American Legion. Interment will be in Emardville Cemetery in Plummer.

Visitation was held from 5 to 8 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service on Tuesday, January 29, at Green Funeral Home in Thief River Falls. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to services at the church.

Thomas Odean Braaten was born on April 30, 1941 in Grand Forks, N.D., the son of Thomas William and Clarissa Theodora (Braaten) Braaten. He was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church in Manvel, N.D. and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls. Thomas attended Manvel Elementary School through the fifth grade, St. Hilaire Elementary School through the eighth grade and Lincoln High School. On May 6, 1959, he entered the U.S. Army. He was honorably discharged on April 26, 1962 after having served in Alaska.

On October 3, 1964, Thomas was united in marriage to Dianne Louise Toulouse at St. Vincent de Paul Church in Plummer. The couple resided in Plummer, and Thomas was employed at Detroiter Mobile Home for 12 years, Hydra Mac Inc. for 24 years and currently, as a welder at Arctic Cat.

He was a member of the Plummer Fire Department and Plummer American Legion.

Thomas enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, watching sports, grilling out and traveling.

Survivors include his wife, Dianne; a son, Thomas Anthony (Janette) Braaten of Plummer; three daughters, Deborah Lynn (Greg) Ricci of Hugo, Lori Ann (Paul) McLean of Thief River Falls and Stacey Marie (Jason) Sauve of Thief River Falls; six grandchildren; his mother, Clarissa Braaten of Manvel, N.D.; two brothers, Harlan "Butch" (Kathy) Braaten of Manvel, N.D. and Ronald (Pat) Braaten of Thief River Falls; three sisters, Elaine (Loren) Ellingson of Stillwater, Jan (Jerry) Wahlbeck of Warroad and Beverly (Robert) Pahlen of Plummer; and several nieces and nephews.

Thomas was preceded in death by his father and two nephews.
