James Boutain, 54

Red Lake Falls - James Boutain, 54, died on Tuesday, April 15, 2003 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, N.D.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, April 19 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls with the Rev. Tim Bushy officiating. Polly Beyer was the organist and special music was provided by the St. Joseph Choir. Casketbearers were Darrel Starken, Rusty Remick, Jerry Solheim, Mike LaPlante, LeRoy Marcotte, Rick Sirek, Lester Schmitz and Glenn Schmitz. Interment was in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Red Lake Falls.

James Donald Boutain was born on February 14, 1949, the son of Donald and Alice (Starken) Boutain, in Crookston. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Dorothy Catholic Church in Dorothy and attended school in Red Lake Falls, graduating from Lafayette High School in 1967. He was in the National Guard from 1970 to 1976.

James was united in marriage to Nan Pouliot on May 31, 1969 in Minneapolis. James owned and operated the Mobile Station in Red Lake Falls, worked for Falls Implement, Solheim Builders and for the last 21 years, worked at the UMC Experiment Station. He enjoyed woodworking, golf, hunting, and he loved spending time with his four grandchildren. James was a member of the Sportsmans Club and served on the board at Oak Knolls Golf Club.

Survivors include his wife, Nan of Red Lake Falls; three children, Amy (Arly) Ohm of Breckinridge, Meg (Jerod) Kolden of Thief River Falls, and Erica Boutain of Grand Forks, N.D.; four grandchildren; his parents, Donald and Alice Boutain of Red Lake Falls; one brother, David (Carolyn) of Fargo, N.D.; four sisters, Lynn Haack of Albuquerque, N.M., Karin (Dale) Spann of Sheridan, Wyo., Connie (Jesse) Valentine of Kalispell, Mont., and Mary Boutain of Bloomington, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews.

James was preceded in death by one sister, Katherine Jo; his grandparents; and aunts and uncles.
