Melvin Boucher, 87

Brooks - Melvin Boucher, 87, died on Wednesday, March 19, 2003 at First Care Medical Services Hospital in Fosston.

Mass of Christian Burial was held on Monday, March 24 at St. Francis Xavier Church in Oklee with the Rev. John Kleinwachter officiating. Barb Melby was the organist and Lori Melby was the soloist. Casketbearers were Melvin's grandchildren, Jim Benson, Dale Benson, David Benson, Tony Bachand, Rich Johs and Kenneth Boucher. Interment was in St. Francis Cemetery in Oklee.

Melvin Alfred Boucher was born on April 17, 1915, the son of Armidas and Emma (Cote) Boucher in Lambert Township of Red Lake County. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Lamber Township and attended Bucktown School in Lambert Township. Melvin stayed home and helped on the family farm.

On November 16, 1937, he married Maria Robidoux in Brooks. The couple lived in the Oklee area and in 1944, they purchased the farm in Lambert Township, where they continued to live. In 1971, Melvin was forced to quit farming due to health reasons. He did custom spraying for area farmers and the State of Minnesota, worked at American Crystal Company in Crookston, worked for Detroiter, and did custom baling and farm work. He moved into First Care Nursing Home in Fosston on September 24, 2002. Melvin enjoyed fishing and especially loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife, Maria of Brooks; three children, Joanne Benson of Grand Forks, N.D., Carol (Charles) Bachand of Brooks, and Michael Boucher of Brooks; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one brother, Norman (Rose) Boucher; two sisters, Doris Mrozek and Mae Griffey; a sister-in-law, Irene Boucher; and several nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Melvin was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Henry and Harvey. A00003B2003MR26
