River Falls - Leonard Boucher, 78, died on
Monday, March 17, 2003 at his home in Thief River
Falls.
Mass of
Christian Burial was held on Saturday, March 22 at
St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Thief River Falls
with the Rev. Tim McGee officiating. Sr. Marguerite
Streifel was the organist and Shelly Burkel was the
vocalist. Casketbearers were Kenneth Boucher,
Leonard E. Boucher, Willard Bergeron, Ambrose
Beaudoin, David Bachand and Frankie Cyr. Interment
was in Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River
Falls.
Leonard
Xavier Boucher was born on February 18, 1925, the
son of Xavier and Emma (Martin) Boucher in Lambert
Township, near Brooks. He was baptized and
confirmed at St. Frances Xavier Catholic Church in
Oklee and attended school in the Oklee area. He
worked on the family farm until he entered the
United States Army on November 21, 1944. While he
was in the Army, he earned the Victory Medal,
European African Eastern Theater Ribbon with one
Bronze Star, two Overseas Service Bars, the Army of
Occupation Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
Leonard was honorable discharged on August 16,
1946. Following his discharge, he returned to Oklee
and worked at the Oklee Creamery until 1952. In
1952, he moved to Chisholm.
On August
3, 1953, he married Rose Vake in Hibbing. Leonard
worked for US Steel in Chisholm for several years
and the Island Farm Creamery in Hibbing for 27
years. He also worked for Franklin Dairy in
Virginia for three years. He retired from the
Creamery and went to work at Red Owl and Mesabi
Mall in Hibbing. He retired in 1988 and the couple
moved to Thief River Falls in 1995. Leonard liked
to be kept busy and enjoyed his vegetable garden.
He was a member of the Hibbing VFW, St. Bernard's
Catholic Church in Thief River Falls, and a former
member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in
Chisholm.
Survivors
include his wife, Rose of Thief River Falls; a
daughter, Terri (Todd) Wilman of Buhl; one
grandson; two sisters, Anna (Adelore) Morisette of
Red Lake Falls and Florence (Maurice) Derosier of
Oak Creek, Wisc.; two sisters-in-law; and several
nieces and nephews.
Leonard
was preceded in death by his parents; brothers,
Emil, Charley, Frank and Lawrence; and one sister,
Marian Lambert.
