Scandia - Adeline Elsie Boerger, 82, of Scandia and formerly of Crookston, died on Sunday, January 4, 2004, at the Fairview Lakes Regional Medical Center in Wyoming, Minn., with many of her family at her bedside.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Jan. 8, 2004 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Crookston, with Rev. Bill Reck officiating. At this time there will also be a special presentation by Crookston VFW Auxiliary 1902. Interment will be held at Oakdale Cemetery in Crookston. Visitation will be at the Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home on Wednesday (today) from 5-7 p.m., with a 7 p.m. prayer service and at the church one hour prior to the service.

Adeline was born in Ryder, N.D. on July 28, 1921, the daughter of Clifford and Ethel (May) Severance. She lived with her parents on a farm near Palermo, N.D. until the age of five. For the next few years the family lived in the states of Wisconsin, New Mexico and Arizona. After Clifford's death in 1931, Adeline was baptized and confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church in Grygla and attended grade school there and high school in Goodridge.

On March 21, 1945, Adeline was united in marriage to Elmer Strom in Grygla. The couple made their home on a farm nearby and twin sons, LeRoy and LaVern, were born to their union. For several years Adeline worked at local stores and restaurants and then was employed as a cook at the Grygla School for eleven years.

Following Elmer's death on November 14, 1967, Adeline moved to St. Cloud, where she received her GED and attended business college. She then worked in Minneapolis for a short time before moving to Crookston Coca-Cola Bottling Co.

On November 14, 1970, Adeline was united in marriage to Nicholas "Nick" Boerger at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Crookston. After 12 years with Coca-Cola Adeline retired so she and Nick could do some traveling and enjoy more of one of their favorite pastimes - dancing.

Adeline was very active in the Auxiliaries of the VFW and American Legion, and was a past president of both organizations. She also belonged to the DAV auxiliary and the International War Veterans Alliance. She was a tireless volunteer for the Auxiliaries doing whatever was needed and for many years she chaired the annual Blood Drive for the organizations. In 1982 Adeline was honored by Professional Secretaries International of Crookston as its Secretary of the Year. Sadly, Nick died on November 11, 1991.

In January of 2000 Adeline moved to Scandia and spent her days visiting with family and friends, crocheting and cooking.

Survivors include her son, LaVern Strom (special friend Carla) of Elk River; her step-son, Nick (Barbara) Boerger of Crookston; her step-daughter, Carolyn Albertson of Moorhead; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Evelyn Rupprecht of Mesa, Ariz. and Irene (Don) Gibson of Greers Ferry, Ariz.; a brother, Leonard (Rose) Strom of Deerwood; a sister-in-law, Eva Severance of Hibbing; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
