Boen, 101
Karlstad
- Grace Boen, 101, died on Tuesday, July 23,
2002 at the Karlstad Healthcare Center.
Funeral
services were held on Friday, July 26 at Hegland
Lutheran
Church
in Strandquist. Debbie Boen served as organist and
the Hodne family were the vocalists. Musical
selections included "Gathering Flowers for the
Master's Bouquet" and "Here Today, Gone Tomorrow."
Casketbearers were Grace's grandchildren and
honorary casketbearers were all those who attended
the service. Interment was in Hegland Church
Cemetery.
Grace
Pauline Sanderson was born on December 14, 1900,
the daughter of Paul and Gro (Steenerson) Sanderson
of Badger.
When
she was eight years old, she moved with her family
to a farm near Strandquist, where she attended the
former East Park School. She was confirmed at Zion
Lutheran Church near her home.
On
August 24, 1925, Grace married Edward Boen in
Marshall County. The couple farmed on what is the
present Boen Farm in Lincoln Township near
Strandquist, for many years. Edward passed away on
April 11, 1958, and Grace continued to live on the
farm until 1962, when she moved the Karlstad.
Grace
was a long-time member of the Hegland Lutheran
Church and active in church affairs. She baby-sat
many children in Karlstad over the years and
enjoyed baking. She was also an active member of
the Karlstad Senior Citizens Group. Since November
of 1993, she had resided at Karlstad Healthcare
Center.
Grace
is survived by four sons, Melford (Selma) of Buena
Park, Calif.; Chester (Angie) of Olivia; and
Phillip (Yvonne) and Gerald (Patsy), both of
Karlstad; three daughters, Lila, Mrs. Ben Belanger
of Baton Rouge, La.; Joyce, Mrs. Herb King of Arden
Hills; and Evelyn, Mrs. Harry Noel of Spirit Lake,
Iowa; 21 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren;
five great great-grandchildren; one sister, Minnie
Bloxdorf of Kenosha, Wisc.; one brother, Arnold
(Bethel) of Worthington; and many nieces, nephews
and other relatives.
She
was preceded in death by her parents; her husband;
one son, Ernest; a grandson; a great-grandson; and
ten brothers and sisters.
