Thief
River Falls - Charles Roger Blokzyl, 68, of
Thief River Falls and formerly of Crookston died on
Wednesday, May 12, 2004 at Innovis Hospital in
Fargo, N.D.
Funeral
services were held on Saturday, May 15 at the
Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home in Crookston.
Military honors were provided by the Crookston
Veterans Council.
Charles
(Charlie or Chuck as he was known to friends) was
born in Crookston on April 4, 1936, the son of
Cornelius and Helen (Butenhoff) Blokzyl. He grew up
in Crookston, the oldest of three siblings and
attended Crookston schools.
On
November 16, 1955 he entered the U.S. Navy, serving
for two years before his honorable discharge on
August 15, 1957. Charlie then lived in Crookston
where he was best known as a great mechanic for the
Kelly Oil Company. He worked for Kelly Oil for
twenty-two years and eventually moved to Thief
River Falls where he was employed by the Watershed
District until his retirement.
Survivors
include two sons, Keith (Janet) Blokzyl of Gentilly
and Vincent (Diana) Blokzyl of Crookston; a
daughter, Kimberly (fiancé Scott Eggen)
Moser of Moorhead; four grandchildren; one sister,
Eunice Schults of Grygla; one brother, Robert
(Rona) Blokzyl of Sharpsberg, Ga.; two aunts, Ethel
Grove and Edna Ehnes, both of Crookston; several
step-children, step-grandchildren, cousins, nieces
and nephews.
He
was preceded in death by his eldest son, Michael;
his parents; and a brother-in-law, Harold Schultz.
