Elmer
Blackberg, 93
Karlstad
- Elmer Blackberg, 93, died Friday, October 26,
2001 at the CNC Unit of Northwest Medical Center in
Thief River Falls.
Funeral
services were held on
Tuesday,
October 30, at 2 p.m. at Karlstad Baptist Church in
Karlstad with Rev. Mark Hanson officiating. Kirstin
Olson was the organist, and vocalists included Mrs.
Mark Hanson and Mr. and Mrs. Philip Waterworth.
Casketbearers were Bruce Marr, Monty Blackberg, Pat
Sjostrand, Brian Marr, Ron Thunberg, Tim Schaffer.
Honorary casketbearers were Elmer's grandchildren.
Interment was in Opdahl Cemetery in Newfolden with
Collins Funeral Home of Karlstad in charge of the
arrangements.
Elmer
Theodore Blackberg was born on May 7, 1908 in
Foldahl Township of Marshall County near Newfolden,
the son of Carl and Amanda (Persson) Blackberg. He
attended District 100 school near his home and grew
up in the Foldahl and West Valley
communities.
On
June 21, 1931, Elmer was united in marriage to
Signe Mortrud at Thief River Falls. The couple
farmed south of Strandquist until 1957 when they
moved to Hazelton Township of Kittson County near
Hallock. Signe died on July 8, 1960.
On
September 3, 1966, Elmer married Evelyn Erickson at
the Karlstad Gospel Tabernacle in Karlstad. The
couple lived in Karlstad, and Elmer continued to
make his home there after Evelyn's death on January
20, 1987.
He
was a member of the Karlstad Gospel Tabernacle and
Karlstad Senior Citizens group.
Elmer
is survived by four sons, Lyle (Merice) of Hoffman,
Duane of Karlstad, Wendell (Carol) of Edgewood,
N.M. and Larry (Dovina) of Portland, Ore.; four
daughters, Audrey Tunberg of Karstad, Ivadelle
(George) Schaffer of Blaine, Carol Marr of Benson
and Grace Barness of Sacramento, Calif.; two
stepdaughters, Wanda (Richard) Elie and Marilyn
Erickson, both of Phoenix, Ariz.; a stepson,
Kenneth (Pearl) Erickson of Phoenix, Ariz.; 43
grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; several
great great-grandchildren; and several nieces,
nephews and other relatives.
He
was preceded in death by his wives; parents; three
daughters, Eleanor, Elaine and Eunice; four
brothers, Hjalmer, Victor, Willie and Tilmer; and
four sisters, Selma, Hilma, Freda and Esther.
