Thief
River Falls - Richard "Dick" Bjorkman, 69, died
on Wednesday, December 10, 2003 in the CNC Unit at
Northwest Medical Center in Thief River
Falls.
Memorial
services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 13,
with Rev. John Wollenzien and Lyle Guttu
officiating.
Richard
B. Bjorkman was born on October 31, 1934 in Thief
River Falls, the son of Clifford and Margaret
(Brown) Bjorkman. He was confirmed at Trinity
Lutheran Church and attended school in Thief River
Falls, graduating from Lincoln High School in 1952.
While in High School Dick enjoyed football,
basketball, track, and choir. He attended the
University of North Dakota in Grand Forks for one
year, and attended and graduated from Hamline
College, in 1956, where he received a Business
Degree. Richard worked for Sears and Robuck in
Minneapolis then joined his father in business at
Bjorkman's Clothing in Thief River Falls in 1962.
He eventually took over the business from his dad
and ran it until 1998.
Richard
was united in marriage to Marsha Card in 1955 in
Moorhead.
Richard
enjoyed spending time at their lake cabin at
Ottertail Lake, near Fergus Falls. He enjoyed
community activities and being with his friends and
family.
He
was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Jaycees,
Elks and was inducted into the Prowler Hall of
Fame.
Richard
is survived by his wife, Marsha; children, Kelly
(Allen) Barkve of Shorview, and Tom (Lynn) Bjorkman
of Eden Prairie,; five grandchildren; sister, Carol
Jean (Darrell) Linthacum of San Jose, Calif.; one
niece and one nephew; and many cousins and friends.
He
was preceded in death by his parents, and infant
brothers.
