Viking
- Arnold Bjorgaard, 82, died on Monday,
December 29, 2003 at Pioneer Memorial Care Center
in Erskine. 
Funeral
services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec.
31 (today), at Zion Lutheran Church in Viking, with
Rev. Luther Peterson officiating. Casket bearers
include Chad Bjorgaard, Andy Bjorgaard, Corey
Bjorgaard, Brady Bjorgaard, Cody Jablinske, Kaine
Jablinske and Shane Olson. Military honors will be
provided by VFW Post 117 and American Legion Post
2793, both of Thief River Falls. Interment will be
at the Viking Cemetery in Viking. Visitation will
be one hour prior to services on Wednesday (today).
Arnold
Oliver Bjorgaard was born on October 12, 1921 in
Argyle, the son of Oscar and Ethel (Jorgenson)
Bjorgaard. He was baptized and confirmed into the
Lutheran faith and attended school in Alma
Township. Arnold entered the United States Army on
August 28, 1942 and was Honorably Discharged on
October 9, 1945. He was in the European and North
African Theaters. While he was in the Army he
received the EAMET Campaign Medal with two Bronze
Stars and the Good Conduct Medal.
Arnold
was united in marriage to Elizabeth Tatro on
December 10, 1946 in Crookston. Arnold farmed near
Argyle and Viking and was also employed with
Lakehead Pipeline for over 30 years. After his
retirement they wintered in Arizona for 15 years.
He
was a member of the Eagle's and the VFW in Thief
River Falls.
Survivors
include his wife, Elizabeth of Viking; seven
children, George (Idelle) of Inver Grove Heights,
Jerry (Renee) of Circle Pines, Robert (Kathy) of
Viking, Bruce (Vickie) of Thief River Falls, Deb
(Roger) Jablinske of Thief River Falls, Patti
(Bruce) Londgren of Bagley, and Peggy Buyaki of
Castle Rock, Colo.; daughter-in-law, Carol Wheeler
of Winona; 19 grandchildren; 10
great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ernest (Wanda)
of Kansas City, Kan. and Raymond (Mary Ann) of
Bonner Springs, Kan.; three sisters, Fern (Neil)
Dahlman of Warren, Lorene (Nick) Plencer of Warren
and Gladys Bates of Gages Lake, Ill.; and several
nieces and nephews.
He
was preceded in death by one son, Kenneth; his
parents; his grandparents; and one brother, Harold.
