Lewis W. Betts, 93

East Grand Forks - Lewis W. Betts, 93, of East Grand Forks died on Sunday, August 11, 2002 in Bismarck, N.D.

Funeral services were held on Betts Friday, August 16 at the Mendenhall Presbyterian Church in East Grand Forks. Interment was in Resurrection Cemetery in East Grand Forks.

Lewis Betts was born on September 2, 1908 in Peoria, Ill., the son of Charles and Zola (Emery) Betts. As a child, he moved with his parents to the Key West area of Polk County. He married Vera Laidley on December 7, 1932 in East Grand Forks. The couple owned and operated the Brownie Cleaners. They also owned and operated the Birchview Resort in Baudette from 1966 to 1977. Vera died on May 5, 1999.

Lewis was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing with the many friends he acquired over the years. He lived at the Terrace in Bismarck, N.D. from 1998 until his death.

Survivors include two daughters, Carol Rodvold of Newfolden and Sharon (Wesley) Sauer of Washburn, N.D.; one son, Ronald Betts of Billings, Mont.; 12 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Lewis was precede in death by his parents; wife, Vera; two brothers, Melvin and Ed; and two sisters, Hazel and Ruth.
