Mary Lou Berry, 71

Thief River Falls - Mary Lou Berry, 71, died Sunday, July 1, 2001 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, N.D.

Mass of Christian burial will be Berry Obit held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, July 5, at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Thief River Falls with Father Timothy McGee officiating. Casketbearers will be Richard Rude, Michael Beaudion, Art Heinze, Dan Kucera, Andrew Berry and Steve Young. Honorary casketbearers will be staff members from Northwest Medical Center, NWMC Occupational Therapy Department, NWMC Auxiliary members and long-time friend Erma Shumway. Interment will be in St. Bernard's Catholic Cemetery in Thief River Falls.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service today (Wednesday, July 4) at Green Funeral Home in Thief River Falls and for one hour prior to services at the church.

Mary Lou Crawford was born on October 13, 1929 in Pembina county near Cavalier, N.D., the daughter of Frank and Mary Ann (Reopelle) Crawford. She grew up near Cavalier and attended Cranley School No. 7.

On October 26, 1949, Mary Lou was united in marriage to Ernest Berry. Ernest was employed by the City of Thief River Falls, and Mary Lou stayed at home to raise their children. After Ernest's death in 1982, Mary Lou began a volunteer career with the Northwest Medical Center Auxiliary.Through the years, she dedicated more than 16,000 hours of volunteer service throughout the hospital, especially in Occupational Therapy and Convalescent Nursing Care. Mary Lou was honored several times for her loyal and valuable service.

She was a member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Sandy Berry of Thief River Falls; a son, Steven (Rita) of Walker; two grandchildren; three sisters-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.

Mary Lou was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a sister, Helen Beaudion and three brothers, Wallace, Jack and Gordon. A00003B2001JL04
