"Bob" Bergan, 69

Lake - Robert "Bob" Bergan, 69, formerly of
Thief River Falls, died on Tuesday, June 22, 2004
at Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls.
A
Celebration of Life Service was held on Monday,
June 28, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief
River Falls, with Rev. John Wollenzien officiating.
Military honors were provided by the American
Legion Ecklund-Holmstrom Post 117 and the VFW Post
2793 of Thief River Falls. Interment was held at
Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls.
Robert
Eugene Bergan was born on June 30, 1934 in Saco,
Montana, the son of Adolph Engaman (Stuff) Bergan.
He was baptized and confirmed in the Christian
faith and attended school in Saco, Montana,
graduating from high school in 1952. He attended
and graduated from the University of Minnesota in
1961, receiving a B.A. degree in Economics and
Psychology.
Robert
entered the United States Air Force on January 28,
1953. He served in the Korean Conflict and was
stationed in Mississippi, Alaska and Florida. He
was honorably discharged on January 27, 1957.
Robert
was united in marriage to Annette A. Anderson on
February 9, 1957 at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in
Minneapolis.
Starting
his career, Robert was District Manager at Phillips
Petroleum in Grand Forks, N.D. Later he started in
sales and worked his way up to be President of
Detroiter Mobile Homes in Red Lake Falls.
He
and his wife owned and operated a number of
businesses in Thief River Falls including Annette's
Fabrics in 1970 and Bergan Travel in 1975, which
they sold in 1999. They also ran The Big Scoop Ice
Cream Parlor and The Fun & Games Arcade. In
March of 1990 he assumed the President position at
the Thief River Falls Chamber of Commerce.
Following retirement in 1999, Bob and Annette
shared their time in Sun City West and Ottertail
Lake.
Robert
was a member of the Lord of Life Church in Sun City
West, Ariz. He was a 35 year member of Trinity
Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls and served on
the Trinity Foundation. Bob also served on the
Board of Directors of First Federal Savings and
Loan in Thief River Falls, the Kidney Foundation,
and was a member of the American Legion, Veterans
of Foreign Wars, Lions and Elks all of Thief River
Falls.
Robert
enjoyed fishing, traveling around the world and
playing cards. He was an avid sports fan and
enjoyed time with his family and friends. He
considered his children and grandchildren God's
greatest gift to him.
Bob's
family makes a special acknowledgement to Dr.
Richard Heinrichs of Dakota Clinic in Thief River
Falls, Dr. Patrick Burch of the Mayo Clinic in
Rochester, and Dr. Howard Russell of MeritCare in
Fargo, N.D. for their many years of tender loving
care.
Robert
is survived by his wife, Annette; two daughters,
Tammy Bergan of St. Paul, and Paula (Tim) Peterson
and their two sons, Kyler and Kaden all of Fergus
Falls; brothers and sister, Marvin (Wilma) Bergan
of Abilene, Texas, Jerry (Alene) Bergan of Oak
Harbor, Wash. and Diane Lockhard of West Jordan,
Utah; sister-in-law, Wauline Bergan of Littleton,
Colo.; three aunts; and many nieces, nephews,
cousins and friends.
He
was preceded in death by his parents; one infant
son, Terrance; and one brother, Louis Bergan.
