Beito, 78
Greenbush
- Elwood Clifford Beito, 78, died on Sunday,
February 2, 2003 at the Greenbush Nursing Home in
Greenbush. 
Funeral
services were held on Thursday, February 6 at Our
Savior's Lutheran Church in Thief Lake with Rev.
Sandra Hollands officiating. Pat Hanson was the
organist. Vocalists were Howard and Gary Hodne and
Bobbi Beito. Casketbearers were Aaron Beito, Derek
Beito, Boe Beito, Chris Beito, Philip Burda and
Darwin Klemetson. Honorary casketbearers were all
those who attended the service. Interment was in
Greenwood Cemetery in Strathcona with military
honors accorded by the Middle River American Legion
Post #444 and the Thief River Falls VFW Post
#2793.
Elwood
Clifford Beito was born on May 27, 1924, the son of
Gilbert and Sophie (Underdahl) Beito in Huss
Township of Roseau County. He attended rural school
and was raised near Strathcona and was baptized and
confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He entered the
United States Army in 1945, serving as a Carpenter
General. He received the Asiatic Pacific Campaign
Medal, an Army of Occupation Medal, as well as a
World War II Victory Medal after serving in Japan.
Following his discharge in 1946, he bought a farm,
worked in the woods in the winter and worked as a
carpenter in the summer.
On
March 24, 1948, he married Joyce Osse in Gatzke.
The couple farmed in Como Township, and in 1959,
bought their farm in Huss Township, where they
resided for many years. Elwood was a member of Our
Savior's Lutheran Church of Thief Lake, the Middle
River American Legion Post and the Thief River
Falls VFW Post. For the past three years, he has
resided at the Greenbush Nursing Home.
Survivors
include his wife, Joyce; five children, Daryl
(Nina) of Greenbush, Diane (Wayne) Klemetson of
Thief River Falls, Daniel (Jean) of Middle River,
DelRay (Rhonda) of Strathcona, and Audrey Beito of
Thief River Falls; 13 grandchildren; 3
great-grandchildren; one brother, Arne (Thora) of
Wannaska; two sisters, Alice Taus of Crookston and
MoReen Bahr of Green Acres, Wash.; and many nieces,
nephews and other relatives.
Elwood
was preceded in death by his parents; seven
brothers, Lennie, Gilman, Marvin, Harry, Walter,
Gerald and Palmer; and two sisters, Gladys and
