Virginia Beiswenger, 85

Thief River Falls - Virginia Beiswenger, 85, died Tuesday, July 24, 2001 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services were held at 2 Beiswenger obit p.m. on Sunday, July 29, at St. John Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls with Rev. Don Kirchner officiating. Elaine Idso was the organist, and the soloist was Ashley Hammer. Casketbearers were Virginia's grandchildren, Scott Pearson, Penny Railing, Tara Pearson, Valerie Riley, Aimee Beiswenger, Chet Beiswenger, Bradon Riedl, Kim Mueller, Jill Kusy and Jayne Gladwell. Her great-grandchildren , Jaren, Kelsy, Kinsey, Keenan, Katie, Ashley, Brett, Breanne and Annalise were the honorary casketbearers. Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls with Green Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Virginia Bertha Luhe was born on July 29, 1915 in Bucklin, Mo., the daughter of Fred and Anna (Anslinger) Luhe. She was baptized on October 21, 1917 in Webster City, Iowa and was confirmed on September 23, 1928 at St. John Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls. After moving with her family to rural Thief River Falls in 1924, Virginia attended Sunnyside country school, Newton country school and Lincoln High School, graduating in 1933. Following graduating, she worked at Sandy's Cafe in St. Hilaire. For a couple of years, she stayed with the Jake Olson family and cared for their son, Huck.

On October 17, 1934, Virginia was united in marriage to Carl Beiswenger in Thief River Falls. The couple grain and dairy farmed until retiring in 1971 and moving into Thief River Falls. In 1973, Carl and Virginia purchased the Carl Beiswenger Sr. farm and operated it for five years. Carl died on September 26, 1999.

From 1955 to 1965, Virginia was employed as a practical nurse at Oakland Park Nursing Home.

She was an avid flower and vegetable gardener and enjoyed baking, cooking, playing cards, going to flee markets and rummage sales and the companionship of her dog, Sam.

Virginia is survived by a son, Ronald (special friend Dianna Cournoyer) Beiswenger of Bloomington; three daughters, Zona (Clayton) Pearson of East Grand Forks, Gwen (Tom) Paton of Stanley, Va. and Ruth (John) Riedl of Northridge, Calif., 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two nephews and a niece.

She was preceded in death by a son, Russell; her husband; parents; a sister, Vera Bullock; and two brothers, Howard and Carl Luhe.
