Red
Lake Falls - Hilma Beckstrom, 88, died Monday,
October 8, 2001 at Hillcrest Nursing Home in Red
Lake Falls.
Funeral
services were held at 11 a.m. on Friday, October
12, at Cease Family Funeral Home in Bemidji with
Rev. Kent Dudley officiating. Honorary
casketbearers included grandsons Gordon Long, Danny
Long, David Long, Scott Beckstrom, Todd Beckstrom
and Ben Lowry. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery in
Bemidji.
Hilma
Mathilda Thunberg was born on April 20, 1913 in
Winger, the daughter of Erick and Ragna (Hanson)
Thunberg. She attended a country school and grew up
on a farm.
In
1937, she married Vincent Beckstrom in Bemidji. The
couple lived in Argyle and Stephen for many years
before moving to Long Lake near Bemidji in 1959.
Vincent died on January 10, 1997. For the past
year, Hilma had been a resident of Hillcrest
Nursing Home in Red Lake Falls.
She
enjoyed picking berries and growing
flowers.
Hilma
is survived by a daughter, Judy (Donald) Long of
Iron; two sons, Jerry (Pat) Beckstrom of Waite Park
and Robert (Danielle) Beckstrom of Red Lake Falls;
nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and
three great great-grandchildren.
She
was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a
brother, Elvin Thunberg; five sisters, Mamie Roy,
Hildred Lund, Lilly Erickson, Jeannie Hurtt and
Edna Cramer; and an infant daughter,
Diane.
