Richard
L. Battleson was born in Thief River Falls on
February 2,
1922.
Richard
graduated from Lincoln High School in Thief River
Falls in the early 1940s. He worked at the Soo Line
Depot as the passenger ticket agent for the Soo
Line "Flyer" passenger train from Winnepeg,
Manitoba, Canada, until being transferred to
Minneapolis. From there he was transferred to
Cheektowaga, N.Y. He retired after 40 years of
service.
Dick
was interred in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery,
The U.S. Department of Veteran's Affairs in Elwood,
Ill.
On
January 13, 2004, a pre-folded flag was displayed
and given to to family by honor guards.
Dick
loved to go deer hunting with family in Thief River
Falls prior to his retirement in the '60s, South
Carolina, where his friends had their own fishing
furnished pond.
Survivors
include his wife of 35 years, Mary Margaret; one
sister Helen (Arnie); two brothers, Donald
(Dorothy) of Champlin and Jim (Joan) of Anoka; one
son, Jack of Omaha, Neb.; one daughter, Mary Jane
of Chicago, Ill.; three grandchildren and eight
great-grandchildren.
He
was preceded in death by his parents; one sister,
"Dolly" Fuella Battleson-Meyers; brothers, George,
"Bus," Duane and Milton, sister-in-laws, Violet,
