Gordon Barros, 69

Thief River Falls - Gordon Barros, 69, died Sunday, January 13, 2002 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today (Wednesday, January 16) at Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls with Rev. John Wollenzein officiating. Ida Nordvall will be the organist, and LeRoy Aasland will be the soloist. Casketbearers will be Jon Wilson, Elmer Nelson, David Nelson, Rick Nelson, Conrad Skyberg and Jerod Moe. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Alexandria.

Visitation was held from 4 to 8 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service Tuesday, January 15, at Green Funeral Home in Thief River Falls. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to services at the church.

Gordon Barros was born on March 20, 1932 in Alexandria, the son of Edwin John and Hazel Dorothy (Brown) Barros. He attended Alexandria schools until the tenth grade. Although he suffered from epileptic seizures, Gordon managed to care for himself for many years. He worked in various places before moving to northern Minnesota in 1972 where he worked for Polaris Industries in Roseau and then in the maintenance department at Northern Pride in Thief River Falls.

On April 10, 1993, he married Ruth Nelson, and the couple made their home in Thief River Falls.

Gordon collected and repaired clocks and enjoyed fixing things.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth of Thief River Falls; two sisters, Albertina Snow of Amety, Ore. and Helen (Ray) Henriksen of Roseville; four stepsons, Elmer (Sandy) Nelson, David (Joann) Nelson and Rick Nelson, all of Thief River Falls, and Ray (Lou) Nelson of Little Falls; a stepdaughter, Mary (Zane) Kembitsky of Badger; 19 step-grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Albin, Harlan, Douglas and Tom.
