Lake Falls - Dale G. Baril, 76, died on
Thursday, August 14, 2003 at Innovis Hospital in
Fargo, N.D.
Mass
of Christian Burial was
held
on Monday, August 18 at St. Joseph Catholic Church
in Red Lake Falls with the Rev. Tim Bushy
officiating. Casketbearers were Todd Knott, Kurt
Knott, Robert Baril, Gordie Knott, Ed Cota, Bill
Malwitz, Bob Malwitz and Jerry Malwitz. Interment
was in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Red Lake
Falls with military honors accorded by the Red Lake
Falls American Legion Post #22.
Dale
Baril was born in Red Lake Falls on October 1,
1926, the son of Art and Mayme (Clement) Baril. He
attended school in Red Lake Falls, graduating from
Lafayette High School in 1944. Following high
school, Dale attended UND for two years, where he
played football for one season. He entered the
United States Navy in 1944 and served overseas.
Dale was honorably discharged in 1946.
On
February 15, 1951, he married Jean Malwitz in Red
Lake Falls. The couple moved to Milwaukee, Wisc.,
for two years and in August 1953, they moved back
to Red Lake Falls, where they have since resided.
Dale worked for Thibert's for a short time and in
1958, he began working for the United States Post
Office, later becoming Postmaster until his
retirement in 1986. He was a member of St. Joseph
Catholic Church, where he served as treasurer and
also served on many boards and committees of the
church. He was also a member of the American
Legion, where he served as past commander, was a
member of the Golf Club, the Sportsman Club, the
Catholic Order of Foresters, Civic and Commerce,
Blue Line Club and was very involved in sports. He
enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren
play sports and he never missed a game. Dale
enjoyed pinochle, hunting and fishing on Lake of
the Woods. He was instrumental in renovating the
Oak Knolls Golf Course. He enjoyed spending time
with his family, especially his
grandchildren.
Survivors
include four children, Bonnie (Mike) LaCoursiere of
Bloomington, Kathie (Doug) Knott of Red Lake Falls,
John (Laurie) Baril of Warroad and Kent (Wanda)
Baril of Grand Rapids; 10 grandchildren; brothers
and sisters, Pauline Guillemette of Red Lake Falls,
Mona LaBonte of Grand Forks, N.D., and Tim (Kathy)
Baril of Townsend, Wisc.; and several nieces and
nephews.
Dale
was preceded in death by his wife, Jean; one
grandson; his parents; and one sister, Phoebe
