Bennie Barber, 81

Thief River Falls - Bennie Barber, 81, died Tuesday, March 13, 2001 at the CNC Unit of Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 17, at Green Funeral Home in Thief River Falls with Rev. Marcia Sylvester officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the American Legion and VFW Posts of Thief River Falls. Burial will be in Fountain Lutheran Cemetery in Fountain.

Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until the time of services Saturday.

Bennie Barber was born on May 17, 1919 in Pilot Mound township of Winona county, the son of Leona Barber. He was baptized in the Lutheran faith and attended Fillmore county country schools. Bennie was in the U.S. Army for three and one-half years, serving in the South Pacific.

He worked as a mechanic at Gunderson Garage in Fountain and was working in a factory in Chatfield when he retired. After work, Bennie spent his time mowing lawns and cemeteries for friends and neighbors. In 1996, he moved to Thief River Falls with his sister-in-law Grace Littlefield.

Bennie was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls and the American Legion in Fountain.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting and playing nickel machines at the casino.

In addition to his sister-in-law, Bennie is survived by several other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his mother; stepfather, Clifford Bendickson; and a brother, Elmer Littlefield. A00003B2000MA14
