Larry Bakke, 55

Newfolden - Larry Bakke, 55, died Saturday, May 11, 2002 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 18, at New  Bakke obit Hope Lutheran Church in Newfolden with Rev. Ollie Urdahl officiating. Kathy Rokke will be the organist and perform a duet with Dolores Mesick. Casketbearers will be Kenneth Garthus, Rodney Peterson, Floyd Nelson, Jim Engelsrud and Leo Olson.

Visitation will be held Friday, May 17, from 4 to 8 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service at Green Funeral Home in Thief River Falls. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to services at the church.

Larry William Bakke was born on March 13, 1947 in Thief River Falls, the son of Adolph and Alice (Gast) Bakke. He was baptized and confirmed at Bethesda Lutheran Church, rural Newfolden. He grew up on the family farm in Marsh Grove Township and attended school in Newfolden.

Occupations Larry was involved with during his lifetime included welding, farming, working with horses, and most recently, driving truck. He owned and operated Bakke Carriage Service, providing buggy rides for weddings and other special events during the summer months and sleigh rides during the winter. He was a frequent volunteer at Old Mill State Park.

On November 16, 1974, Larry married Heidi Strandberg in Middle River. The couple resided on the Bakke family farm where they raised their three children.

Larry enjoyed fishing, hunting, and especially, raising, riding, and driving his horses.

Survivors include a son, Craig of Thief River Falls; two daughters, Nicole of Warroad and Jessica of Newfolden; two brothers, Robert (Mary Ann) Bakke of Thief River Falls and Lester (Rose) Bakke of Moorhead; two sisters, Avis (Melvin) Mattson of Newfolden and Arlene (Donald) Ness of Middle River; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding Larry in death were his parents and a brother, Arvin Bakke. A00003B2002MY15
