Charles Martin Bakke Jr., 68

Lathrop, Calif. - Charles Martin Bakke, Jr., 68, died on Monday November 10, 2003, in Lathrop Calif. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, November Charlie Bakke 18, at Collins Funeral Chapel in Karlstad, with Pastor Gary Halverson officiating. Casket bearers included Rudy Borowicz, David Johnson, Gene Pederson, Derrick Bakke, Brian Bakke, Darin Bakke and Bradley Bakke. Interment was held at Karlstad Cemetery.

Charles Martin Bakke Jr. was born on May 25, 1935 to Charles Sr., and Pauline (Hilde) Bakke in Springbrook Township of Kittson County. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. The family made their home near Donaldson for several years, then moved to Karlstad, where Charlie graduated from Karlstad High School in 1954. He served with the U.S. Army, and following discharge, worked as a carpenter.

On August 26, 1980, Charlie was united in marriage to Betty Sugars at Craig, Colo. They have since made their home in Kingman, Ariz. He and Betty were a team driving truck until health problems required his retirement in 2002. Survivors include his wife, Betty; four sons: Derrick (Ruth), of Lathrop, Calif.; Brian (Kathy), of Blaine, and Bradley and Darin (Shari), both of Lapeer, Mich.; one daughter, Donita, (John) Einowski, of Patterson, Calif.; two step-sons: David (Mary) Sugars, of Chester, Neb. and James W. (Kolene) Sugars of Mound Ridge, Kan.; one step-daughter Cindy (Duane) Quintana of Thornton, Colo.; 18 grandchildren; 9 step-grandchildren; 2 great-step-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents; one sister Margaret Johnson; and one brother, David Bakke. A00003B2003NV19
