Arnold Austinson, 74

Thief River Falls - Arnold Austinson, 74, died on Tuesday, July 15, 1997 at Northwest Medical Center.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 17 at Trinity Lutheran Church with Reverend Tim Bauer officiating. Ida Nordvall was the organist and Diane Johnson, the soloist. Casketbearers were Todd Bernard, Ty Bernard, Michael Dahle, Troy Larson, Jeff Dahle, Randy Jorde and Allen Rux. Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery. The Green Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Arnold Austinson was born March 26, 1923 in Excel township, Marshall County, the son of August and Belle ( Dahle) Austinson. He was baptized and confirmed at Trininty Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls. He attended rural school and helped his family farm in North township, Pennington, County. Arnold spent two years in the U..S. Army during World War II. Following his honorable discharge, he moved to St. Paul and worked for Waldorf Paper Company. In 1961 he moved back to North township to the farm his grandfather had homesteaded to farm. He was united in marriage to Elaine Johnson on April 5, 1973 at Trinity Lutheran Church. The couple made their home on the farm.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the Eagles, VFW and American Legion posts of Thief River Falls. Arnold enjoyed the outdoors, farming and spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Elaine of Thief River Falls; one sister, Alice Bernard of St. Paul; three nephews; one niece; several great nieces and nephews; and several cousins.

Arnold was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Arthur.
