River Falls - Shirley Austad, 60, died on
Thursday, December 19, 2002 at Northwest Medical
Center in Thief River Falls.
Funeral
services were held on
Monday,
December 23 at Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River
Falls with Rev. Gary Johnson officiating. Ida
Nordvall was the organist and Don Wahlbeck was the
soloist. Casketbearers were Art Anderson, Duke
Johnson, Terry Brandon, Duane Molstad, Ron Alby,
Roger Forsberg and Geno Kalinowski. Honorary
casketbearers were Shirley's grandchildren, Alan
Ness, Jessica Benke, Adam Benke, Ashley Benke, Matt
Linder and Jon Linder. Interment was in Greenwood
Cemetery.
Shirley
"Tudy" Efteland was born on November 15, 1942, the
daughter of Earl and Eunice (Nelson) Efteland in
Thief River Falls. She was baptized and confirmed
at Zion Lutheran Church. She grew up and attended
school in Thief River Falls.
Shirley
was united in marriage to Arnold Ness. Later, she
married Ray Austad. In the 1970s, she was employed
at several places in Thief River Falls. In 1990,
she began working at the Rusty Nail.
Shirley
enjoyed crossword puzzles, darts, fishing,
collecting Mickey Mouse, watching "Little House on
the Prairie," "Wheel of Fortune," and "The Price Is
Right." She especially enjoyed spending time with
her family and friends. She was a member of the VFW
Auxiliary of Thief River Falls.
Survivors
include her children, Roy "Pooky Bear" (Janell)
Ness of Middle River and Dawn (Jeff) Benke of
Newfolden; six grandchildren; her mother, Eunice
Efteland of Thief River Falls; brothers, Curt,
Larry (Sharon) and Jim (Judy), all of Thief River
Falls; sisters, Darlene (Jerry) Olson of Newfolden
and Nancy (Kevin) Shafer of Cloquet; and several
nieces and nephews.
Shirley
was preceded in death by her father, Earl; Ray
Austad; special friend, Anton "Bud" Helmer; Tim
Efteland; grandparents; and several aunts and
uncles.
