Red Lake Falls - Leora Audette, 84, died Thursday, December 21, 2000 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.
Mass of Christian burial was held on Saturday, December 23, at 9 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls with Father Tim Bushy officiating. Kathie Knott was the organist, and special music was provided by St. Joseph's Church Choir. Casketbearers were Kent Schmitz, Terry Schmitz, Gale Schmitz, Joel Schmitz, Gary Weiss and Arlan Weiss. Burial was in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Red Lake Falls. Johnson Funeral Service of Red Lake Falls was in charge of the arrangements.
Leora Weiss was born on June 23 1916 near Red Lake Falls, the daughter of Henry and Ida (Hendricks) Weiss. She was raised in the Red Lake Falls area and attended rural school. After Leora's mother died, she helped raise her siblings.
On October 22, 1940, Leora married Maurice Audette at Dorothy. The couple farmed near Dorothy and moved to Red Lake Falls in 1951. For many years, Leora worked at St. John's Hospital in Red Lake Falls, retiring in 1979. Arthur died in 1972.
She was a member of the VFW and American Legion Auxiliary, Royal Neighbors, Catholic Daughters and Hillcrest Nursing Home Auxiliary. She was also active at St. Joseph's Catholic Church and its guild.
Leora enjoyed knitting, quilting, gardening, canning, entertaining and playing cards.
Survivors include two sons, Jim (Mary) Audette of St. Paul and Tim (Monica) Audette of Wyoming; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Willard (LouAnn) Weiss of Crookston; five sisters, Viola Iverson of Harvey, N.D., Izzy (Leonard) Melin of Thief River Falls, Helen (Sylvester) Schmitz of Red Lake Falls, Lillian Berry of Thief River Falls and Marvel (Arthur) Klein of Langdon, N.D.; a sister-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.
Leora was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a son, Allen; five brothers, George Weiss, August Weiss, Henry Weiss, Raymond Weiss and Richard Weiss; and a daughter-in-law, Margaret Weiss. A00003B2000DC27
