Thief
River Falls - Doris Asselin, 86, died on
Wednesday, March 26, 2003 at Northwest Medical
Center in Thief River Falls.
Mass of
Christian Burial was held on Monday, March 31 at
St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Oklee with
the Rev. John Kleinwachter officiating. Barb Melby
was the organist and Doris' grandchildren were the
casketbearers. Interment was in St. Francis
Cemetery.
Doris
Marie Morrissette was born on April 12, 1916, the
daughter of Wilfred and Katherine (Brooks)
Morrissette. She attended Oklee and Plummer Public
Schools and graduated from high school in 1934. She
attended Red Lake Falls Teachers Training and
taught in a country school for a short time. She
also worked at Duluth Hospital.
On June
12, 1939, Doris was united in marriage to Joseph
Asselin. The couple farmed for 40 years and then
moved into Oklee. Doris worked for Oklee Recreation
for many years. Joseph died in 1993. Doris was a
member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church and
St. Ann's Society in Oklee. She enjoyed playing
cards, cooking, baking and reading. She always sent
birthday cards to her family members and throughout
the years, she kept journals and family
records.
Survivors
include sons, James (Donna) of Covina, Calif.,
Kenneth (Sharron) of Gilbert, Robert (Sharon) of
St. Cloud, and Donald of St. Cloud; 15
grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a twin
sister, Dorothy Bolin of International Falls;
sisters, Beulah Peterson of Bemidji, Isabelle
Gribbon of Southgate, Mich., Louella (Frank) Yelle
of W. Covina, Calif., and Marie (Dale) Stebe of
Bemidji; brother, Edward (Alice) of Bemidji;
sisters-in-law, Arabelle Morrissette, Lucille
(Marvin) Strande, and Mayme Berberich; and many
nieces and nephews.
Doris was
preceded in death by her husband, Joseph; her
parents; brothers, Maurice and Eugene;
daughter-in-law, Mary Asselin; and brothers-in-law,
Earl Bolin, Leonard Peterson and Edward Gribbon.
