Celene Asselin, 85

Oklee - Celene Asselin, 85, died October 16, 1997 at Altru Hospital of Grand Forks, ND.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 21 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Oklee with Father Bob LaPlante officiating. Charity Wicks was the organist. Casketbearers were all of Celene's nieces and nephews. Burial was at St. Francis Cemetery near Oklee.

Celene Asselin was born August 23, 1912 in Lambert township, Red Lake County, the daughter of Onezime and Permelia (Hince) Asselin. She attended school near Oklee and Mount St. Benedict in Crookston before attending nurse's training. She worked at St. Vincent Hospital in Crookston and later at Oakland Park Sanitarium in Thief River Falls before she contracted tuberculosis and became a patient there for a time. She moved back to Crookston and worked at St. Francis Hospital until it closed. She then worked at St. Vincent Nursing Home until her retirement. Celene moved back to Oklee in 1973 where she has since resided.

She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church and the guild.

Celene is survived by one brother, Tom Asselin of Oklee; three sisters, Mayme Berberich of Brooks, Lucille (Marvin) Strande of Crookston and Bernyce (Raymond) Wicks of Oklee; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Joe, Walter and Harvey; and two sisters, Rose and Cora.
