
Thief River Falls - Muriel Asp, 85, died Friday, November 19, 1999 at the CNC Unit of Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, November 22 at New Life Assembly of God Chruch in Thief River Falls with Rev. George Bunnell officiating. Kathy Panek was the organist, and vocalists were Matt Secret and Ruthie Bunnell. Casketbearers were Galen Phelps, Eldon Phelps, Robert Phelps, David Sheridan, David Brown and Scott Sheridan. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls with the Green Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
Muriel Elois Phelps was born on March 6, 1914 in Thief River Falls, the daughter of Frank and Liza (Nelson) Phelps. She grew up in Pennington county and attended rural schools.
On July 27, 1933 she was united in marriage to Walter Leonard Asp in Taylor Falls. The couple farmed in Marshall county. In 1952 they purchased a farm in Cloverleaf township where they spent the rest of their lives. Walter died on December 13, 1979.
Muriel enjoyed playing her guitar at churches, nursing homes and street services in the area. She especially enjoyed horses and being on her farm.
Survivors include three daughters, Varadeen (Arnie) Christianson of West Fargo, ND, Caroline (Kenneth) Carlson of Farmington and Johanna (Larry) Krueger of Twin Valley; three sons, Jimmie (Jeanette) Asp of Thief River Falls, Joseph (Susan) Asp of Goodridge and Jonathan Asp of Roosevelt; 15 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; one brother, Gordon (Alma) Phelps of Goodridge; one sister-in-law, Elizabeth Phelps of Thief River Falls; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walter; two sons, Walter Jr. in infancy and Frank in 1968; brothers and sisters, Jessie, Edwin, Blanche, Lloyd, Devern, Doris, Ardith and Sterling; and one granddaughter, Angeline Carlson Haack. A00003B1999NV24
